Taylor Swift applies to trademark 'This sick beat', world tells her to cop on

IF YOU HAVE any novelty mugs with “This sick beat” engraved on them, it might be time to get rid of them as Taylor Swift has applied to trademark it and a number of other phrases from her album 1989.

According to documents filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, Swift is seeking to trademark the phrases “This Sick Beat”, “Party Like It’s 1989″, “Cause We Never Go Out of Style” and “Nice To Meet You. Where You Been?”

All are song lyrics taken from her latest album and the trademarks would protect the phrases from being used on unlicensed merchandise or media material.

Despite this fairly reasonable explanation, the whole thing hasn’t sat too well with fans.

The consensus is that she needs to be stopped.

And others worried about the possible ramifications.
